Jazz is Pakistan's largest mobile network provider, with a customer base of over 60 million. Jazz was formerly known as Mobilink and is one of Pakistan's largest telecom network and internet service providers. The firm has been owned by Russian Alfa group since 2010. The company was founded as a joint venture between Saif Group and Motorola Inc in 1994.

A bit of Jazz History

Orascom Telecom purchased Motorola's shares in Mobilink in February 2001 and made them the company's largest shareholder. However, a Russian telecom operator – Vimpelcom – now known as VEON, acquired most of Orascom Telecom's assets, including Mobilink, in a $6.5 billion deal in 2010.

Mobilink was formally rebranded as 'Jazz' after Vimpelcom purchased Pakistan's Warid Telecom (a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi group). Pakistan's first-ever telecom merger created a combined subscriber base of more than 50 million people.

After the merger with Warid, Jazz was permitted to use Warid's technology-neutral license which at the time enabled them to become the second LTE mobile network operator in the nation. Also, PTA formally awarded the 4 G license to Jazz in June 2017. Jazz conducted 5 G trials for its subscribers at the start of this year making it the second telecom network in Pakistan to successfully test 5 G network.
